Mekaal Hasan is a Pakistani musician known for his recorded and live performances with the Mekaal Hasan Band and for his recording, audio mixing and production abilities which have seen him work with leading contemporary local and international artists.
Mekaal Hasan studied music at the Berklee College of Music during the nineties and his stay there exposed him to a wide variety of music and musicians, many of whom are influences to this day. Upon his return from Berklee in 1995, he started making a name for himself by writing music with The Mekaal Hasan Band which would feature different classical, folk and experimental artists who could contribute to the progressive and bold nature of the music that the band plays.
Mekaal Hasan Band was formed in 2000 and features traditional music from the Indian subcontinent presented in a contemporary setting. The band has four highly acclaimed records, Sampooran (2004), Saptak (2010) released on EMI/Virgin Records, Andholan (2014) released on Times Music and their first live album, Live at Baroda (2015).
Digital Fidelity Studios was founded in 1995 by Mekaal Hasan as an audio production facility to cater to the burgeoning demand for professionally recorded audio in the fledgling music industry in Pakistan.
